GUEST POST by Gerald Harbel (Star, Idaho) —
On January 22, 1973, seven un-godly men within our United States Supreme Court determined it is a citizens right to kill the helpless, un-born. I sincerely believe that court decision was a monumental step down our national Sodom and Gomorrah path. I also believe there is a good possibility of the Lord laying the millions and millions of deaths, (resulting from this court decision) on the hands of the men and women speaking from our Christian pulpits. Our pastors did not make this horrendous ruling. However, a vast pastoral majority have enabled the continuation of this holocaust for a very basic reason - pastors lack conviction to teach and apply God's principles as taught by His examples. Simply put, they are afraid to teach His principles when His word conflicts with government supported evil. Men and women depicted in His Word do not display this characteristic. The following are just a few of the individuals with a completely different mindset.
Hebrew boys told to eat the King's food, they said NO and God blessed them with good health; Three Hebrews told to worship the king, they said NO and God delivered them from the fiery furnace; Hebrew told to only pray to the king, he said NO and God delivered him from the lions den; Hebrew woman heard of evil being perpetrated, she went un-invited before the king, God granted her favor before the king. She and her people were blessed while evil was destroyed; Phinehas witnessed evil being committed, he went and slew the perpetrators, God gave to him and his seed an everlasting covenant of peace and a covenant of everlasting priesthood.
If God says something a couple times, He might be saying something to get our attention. And if, He repeats that something several times, it just might be an important principle He wants us to apply. There is one common trait in four of these examples - courage - willingness to sacrifice their life to stand for the conviction of God's word within their heart. In our society of today, we can not act as Phinehas, but we can use his example. He saw evil being committed and he took action to stop it. I don't know why God rewarded him, but I believe it was because Phinehas was not afraid to act. Would our United States still be enabling the killing of millions of babies each year if our pastors had the courage to speak against evil from their pulpits? That is a question that only God can answer.
In 1973, the United States was supposedly a Christian nation. If we really were "Christian" at that time, how can one explain the State sanctioning of baby murder? The explanation lies in one very simple answer - Christian pastors had exited the public arena many years prior to 1973. It is now forty years later and pastors are still absent and they are still neglecting to instill a moral compass within their flocks. Pastors are not teaching nor encouraging true Christians to get involved and run for public office. Consequently, the flocks, "We the people", are still electing un-godly men and women to the United States Congress. This means the the un-godly are still confirming and placing evil people into our courts and authoritarian positions. We have replaced the entire United States House of Representatives for a total of TWENTY times in the past 40 years and we have replaced the entire United States Senate for a total of SIX+ times. All seven of the original corrupt, evil men on the United States Supreme Court have been replaced by evil men and women. Nothing has really changed in the past forty years - we and the pastors are still perpetuating evil. Would a true Christian Congress still be condoning this evil? I don't think so.
There is one solution - pastors must once again become engaged in the public arena just as they were when the states joined together to form our Republic of these United States. The only apparent, pastoral mindset of "pray and evangelize" needs to expand to one of "prayer with action". Prayer is absolutely powerful and essential. Although the absolute power of prayer is mentioned many times through-out the Bible, there is one outstanding example that comes to mind. God's people were engaged in a fierce battle. The battle went well for God's people just as long as their leader was able to hold up his arms in prayer to the Lord. The battle went against God's people whenever he became fatigued and had to drop his arms. Consequently, he realized the power of prayer - he had others holdup his outstretched arms. No where in the Bible have I ever read or heard of an example where God told man to pray and sit on their bottoms while HE went to fight man's battles. Every example in His word illustrates the same specific thing - man must pray for God's help, but it is man that must actually fight the battle.
As all Christians know, the day is coming when each and every one of us will be judged by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is my understanding that His judgment will be based upon our words and deeds. On my day, I believe I will hear either one of two things - "enter in my good and faithful servant" or else " depart from me, yea worker of inequity, for I know you not". I do not want to hear the latter. Therefore, I try to apply the principles of God's word (KJV) as given by His many examples.
Attention Pastors: Are you going to get into the game to make Christianity relative and important in the public arena or are you going to continue with the same mindset of "Pray and Evangelize"? Before you make your decision, please consider the definition of stupidity - doing the same old thing and expecting a different result.
