Report on the First Meeting of the Canyon County Tea Party

GUEST POST by Darryl and Sheila Ford (Canyon County, Idaho) —

I want to thank everyone that attended the first and organizational meeting of the Canyon County Tea Party. I am grateful for the participation of the attendees and the leaders of other conservative groups that spoke on the behalf of the first meeting. I believe all that spoke gave very tangible methods and let us know what kind of direction that we can pursue.

I requested that we focus on several directions that will be opportunities to be easily involved, to complete, and to be successful. I also would like to invite some speakers that will inform us of some "Taxing" and unethical Canyon County projects that we can get involved to turn the direction of. I would enjoy any input into the issues and your thoughts to present to our group and consider getting involved.

I have asked Steve Ackerman to speak to us on the affordable health care act and what it has done, and will do to us in the future. I have also asked Al Freeman to speak to us on the Vehicle Emission Testing and how our Canyon County representatives have elected to keep the TAX in place. Remember Couer D'Alene is going to get it next. The other person to give us information is Bob Forrey to tell us about what is happening with the Land Board. He said its exposure will be in the NEWS this Monday.

I would also like to have some input on what is a good night and time to hold meetings to have our progress reported and to have speakers to inform us. I think we should leave the second week of the month open to attending the school board meetings as they are usually held in the second week of the month. Also if this is something you can do, please check the school board's web site and let us know that you can attend. There is no problem with several of us attending. The more of us who attend, the better we'll understand how they operate and will be able to influence their behavior to represent the citizens.

Those of us who are a candidate for office should introduce themselves to the group, or if you know someone who is, invite them to do so. Our purpose is not to endorse candidates, but to make them available to voters so they are better educated to make a decision.

We should keep in mind the CS Lewis quote brought by K Lynn Miller, "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under the robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons' cruelty may sometimes sleep; his cupidity may at some point be satisfied. But those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

When we are tempted to give up, we must remember that they will continue to march right over us and assure that our children have a miserable future.
